The advancement of the section now in hand will result in an earlier completion of the scheme and so far as can be foreseen the final cost will not exceed the original estimate.

The unexpended balance on the vote provided for 1934 was $147,816. It is anticipated that a further sum of $117,000 will be required during 1935 and a supplementary vote for this amount is accordingly requested.

A sum of $7,000 was approved in November, 1934, (Finance Message 15 Item 98), but owing to unavoidable delay it was not possible to complete the work in that year, only $623.05 being spent.

A revote of $3,500 from the unexpended balance $6,376.95 on the 1934 vote is required to meet payments due this year.

"Fees to lecturers instructing probationer Asiatic Sanitary Ins- pectors."

Provision for the fees to officers of the Public Works, Medical, and Sanitary Departments for instruction of the class of probationer Asiatic Sanitary Inspectors was not made in 1935 Estimates. By the end of 1935 approximately 125 lecture hours will have been worked the fees for which at $8 per hour will amount to $1,000 for which amount a supplementary vote is now requested.

The above is to be met from savings under Sanitary Department (1935 Estimates page 67 sub-head 10).

Owing to there being no suitable type of Armoured Car at present available, it is considered necessary to purchase 3 Motor Machine Gun Combinations at an estimated cost of $3,980.25 delivered in Hong Kong and one Vickers Machine Gun (Complete) at $3,225-total $7,205.25.

Provision was made in the current Estimates of $18,500 for the pur- chase of an armoured car and of this amount $6,500 has been allocated for armament leaving $12,000 available. The armament already pur- chased will suit the machine gun combinations equally as well.

A supplementary vote for $7,206 is requested.

The above is to be met from savings under Head 27 Sub-head 25— Armoured Cars, etc., (1935 Estimates page 87 sub-head 25).
